On-board Style Guide: What to Bring — and What to Leave Ashore — for the Perfect Yacht Day

On-board Style Guide: What to Bring — and What to Leave Ashore — for the Perfect Yacht Day

Let’s be honest: on a yacht, space is the new luxury, and excess luggage is the first beginner’s mistake.

Experience tells us that elegance at sea is not measured by how much you bring, but by how well you choose each piece. If you want to enjoy Formentera like a true insider rather than a clueless tourist, here are the golden rules.

What SHOULD go in your hand luggage — and nothing else

  • “Ocean Friendly” sun protection: Please forget greasy oils that leave marks on the yacht’s leather upholstery. Look for high-end, invisible creams and, if possible, products that are respectful of our posidonia. The Ibiza sun is unforgiving, and the reflection on the water multiplies its strength.
  • Quality sunglasses: Not just for style — although that matters too — but because to appreciate the 50 shades of blue at Ses Illetes, you need a good polarised lens.
  • Linen or organic cotton clothing: Nothing says “I’m on holiday in Ibiza” quite like an open linen shirt or a light kaftan. It is fresh, elegant and dries in no time after a swim.
  • Boat shoes — or bare feet: The number one rule on a luxury boat: shoes stay in the basket at the entrance. If you really need to wear something, make sure it is boat shoes with white soles. But believe me, the feeling of freedom that comes from walking barefoot on teak is part of the therapy.
  • A light jumper or pashmina: Yes, it is hot. But when the sun sets in front of Es Vedrà and the yacht starts its engines to return to port, the sea breeze can be deceptive.

What you MUST leave at the hotel — if you do not want to look out of place

  • Hard suitcases: Please, no. Space in the cabins is sacred, and hard suitcases are the enemy of wood and comfort. A soft fabric travel bag is all you need.
  • Excessive jewellery: The sea has a strange fondness for keeping diamond earrings and watches that do not close properly. Less is more. The best accessory on a boat is a good tan and a relaxed smile.
  • High heels: They are dangerous for you and deadly for the boat deck. If you have a reservation at an exclusive beach club, carry them in your bag and put them on just before getting into the zodiac.
  • Worries and your phone on “vibrate” mode: You are in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Take the photo, upload it — tag us, of course — and then put your phone away. True luxury is being present.
