This is the go-to route for first-time boat hires between Ibiza and Formentera.

Departing from any of the main ports in Ibiza (like Marina Botafoch, Marina Ibiza or Ibiza Magna), you head towards Espalmador — the tiny paradise between Ibiza and Formentera that’s only accessible by boat.

You can stop here for a swim before continuing to Illetas, one of the most famous beaches in Formentera.

After enjoying Illetas, you might want to head to La Savina, go ashore and rent a bike or scooter to explore Formentera at your own pace.

We recommend grabbing lunch at one of the beach bars (like Beso Beach, El Pirata or Restaurante Es Ministre), or bringing your own food on board.

The best thing about having your own boat is that you decide when to leave and set your own rhythm.

End the day in style by watching the sunset from your boat before heading back to Ibiza.

If the wind is blowing from the west or you just want to see a different side of Formentera, this coastal route is incredible.

From Ibiza, sail towards Espalmador, and instead of stopping in Illetas, continue on to Playa de Levante. It’s much quieter here, with plenty of space to swim in peace.

Carry on sailing to Es Caló — a small fishing village with ideal waters for snorkelling and restaurants like Can Rafalet or Can Pasqual.

You can also combine this with a stop at Sa Roqueta beach, or even continue south to discover coves that are only accessible by boat.

If you’re after a more unique route with spectacular landscapes, make sure to include Cala Saona and Cap de Barbaria on your itinerary.

From Ibiza, you can first sail to Espalmador or Illetas, and then head west towards Formentera.

Cala Saona is a small, sheltered cove that’s perfect for swimming or sunbathing on the deck.

Once there, you can make your way to Cap de Barbaria, Formentera’s famous lighthouse, and enjoy the views from the sea.

If you’ve got the time, keep sailing south to discover some of the area’s marine caves.

Afterwards, head to Formentera and choose your favourite cove to spend the afternoon.

You can sleep on board, swim in different coves each night, and plan the route entirely to your liking.

With a full week on the water, you’ll have more than enough time to visit the most famous beaches and — best of all — discover hidden spots that you’ll only find when you let yourself drift and take in the island at your own pace.

You can start in Ibiza, sail along the western and southern coasts, cross to Formentera, and make your way around the island stopping in Illetas, Levante, Es Caló, Migjorn and Cala Saona.
